Press Room: McDonald’s USA and media entrepreneur Roland S. Martin launches scholarship to help HBCU students graduate

McDonald’s the USA and Roland S. Martin, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is awarding more than $100,000 in scholarships to juniors and seniors following Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). In honor of the fraternity’s 115 years of scholarship and black goodness, HBCU desires to help solve the often-insurmountable economic challenges faced by students trying to fund a 4 years college education.

Scholarship for HBCU Students

Data shows that on average, scholarships and assistance cover only 25% of the total cost of college per year, and often scholarships for HBCU students are immersed in transferring them from high school to college. For the upper class, graduating can be financially difficult due to rising tuition costs and mounting debt with limited scholarship funds offered for this group.

With the help of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), seven appearing juniors and seniors will be awarded a $15,000 scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year. Eligibility

Award winners will be announced before the start of the Fall 2022 semester. Students wishing to apply must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Enroll as a Junior or Senior in a TMC member organization and private HBCU in the fall of 2022
  • Have an accumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  • Submit a short article on how they demonstrate Black superiority and administration within their campus residents.
  • Be a US citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamp I-551
